Visit to an Abortion Clinic —Rachel (Comfort) Zwayne I’m sitting here staring in disbelief at some “Family Planning” abortion pamphlets. On our way to a local high school to give out “180” DVDs today, Laura Spence and I stopped by an abortion clinic. This particular office is right in the heart of a restaurant and business complex and yet most would not even know it was there. It is right near my house, but I didn’t know about it until I googled “abortion clinics.” We headed up the elevator to the 2nd floor. Both of our hearts were pounding as it became so real to us that we were headed for the office where precious lives were being snuffed out on a weekly basis in the name of “choice.” When we stepped out of the elevator, we had to look around for a moment in order to actually find the office. After walking through a glass door, we found the clinic door tucked away as if it were a janitor’s closet. Upon entering the office, we were struck by the nice décor, along with the warm and inviting atmosphere and the friendly staff. We walked up to the counter and I asked if I could have a pamphlet on abortion procedures. What followed was the most surreal conversation that I have ever had. This kind and friendly woman proceeded to discuss with me the various abortions that are done depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy. I asked her how much they would cost and she started listing them all off with the most nonchalant, salesperson-type voice (It felt as if I were buying sunglasses): “Well, at 5-9 weeks, a non-surgical abortion would be $525. At 5-13 weeks, a surgical abortion would be $450 and at 13-21 weeks, it would cost between $765 and $2150.” All the while, she was being so kind and helpful and writing down the prices for me on my pamphlets. When I asked if they did abortions after 21 weeks, she said that Planned Parenthood could definitely help me out with that. I can’t describe to you the feeling that we had when being told in such a casual and natural way how we could go about murdering precious babies. It was very difficult to keep our composure. We left that office haunted by the reception we had received and by those abortion price tags. Needless to say, that gave us even more unction to pass out those “180” DVDs to the high schoolers whose school was within a mile of that clinic. I have no doubt in my mind that that young lady would have been very effective at consoling any young girl or woman that her “choice” was definitely the right one for everyone involved. She was very good at her job. If You Care About the Unborn —Rachel (Comfort) Zwayne A few months ago, when my dad and the staff of Living Waters were putting together the “180” documentary, my family and I were spending the night at my parents’ house. We had spent the evening discussing “180” and the heavy issues that are in the film. After everyone retired to bed, I couldn’t settle, so I decided to stay up and do something that had been on my heart. I decided to expose myself to some graphic abortion footage, in order to stir my heart up even more. It wasn’t something that I “felt” like doing, as it is so heart-wrenching, but I knew that I needed to. It’s so easy for us to be anti-abortion, but forget how heinous the act really is. I went to a recommended pro-life website and decided to watch a four-minute video that was posted on there. As you can imagine, I wept through the whole thing. I had seen many similar pictures in the past, but I needed to be reminded again. Then at the end of the video, they showed some unreal footage. What you see is a doctor’s gloved hands wrapping up an aborted baby’s lifeless body. It lasts about 4 seconds, but that image is forever etched in my memory. I pictured in my mind, that man callously dumping that precious body into the trash. It is how you would treat an animal, a piece of meat. That precious, beautiful creation of God was thrown into the garbage, never one human soul having loved it, protected it, cared for it or cradled it in their arms. Of course, I “knew” of the reality of this happening every day, but to actually see this particular footage was haunting. I got off the computer and sat down on my parents’ couch in a daze, weeping, and completely speechless. The reason I write this, is to urge you to watch “180” if you haven’t already. After you have done that, please pass it along to as many people as you can. And then, I urge you to expose yourself to the reality of what is truly going on down the street from you. Many people will say that they can’t handle the graphic nature of the pictures, but I would ask, why can’t we handle them? Is it because it makes US feel uncomfortable, scared, haunted, or might even give us nightmares? Wouldn’t that be a good thing? Those feelings can cause us to act. We have to ask ourselves what the reason is that we stay away from the details of what’s going on. Are we afraid of how it will make US feel? There is nothing like a good dose of the ugly, ugly truth to get us to act. We need to expose ourselves to the wickedness of abortion and how it is done, whether through written information or through images. For many years, I have felt frustrated and disheartened with the issue of abortion, wondering how I could really make my voice heard. “180” is an amazing solution in getting our voices out there. We can send a message around the world from our own homes. Not only does it deal strongly with the issue of abortion, it leaves people with the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ! Let’s link our arms and fight for, not only the lives of the unborn, but the souls of the unsaved.
